First Aid Courses (3 hours)
Active coaches should attend a three hour First Aid Course every three years. Courses will need to provide knowledge, practical skills and confidence to attend a conscious or unconscious casualty, ensuring that appropriate care is given. It will cover mouth to mouth resuscitation, control of bleeding, dressing of wounds and minimising shock. Courses can be booked via:
-
St John Ambulance Search for the Essential First Aid course, all ages (cost £25). You have the option to enter a postcode and you should get a list of forthcoming courses in the vicinity. Click here.
-

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS formerly CRB) Vetting Checks
Active coaches must possess a valid DBS Vetting Check. On 1st December 2012 the Criminal Records Bureau, who provided ‘CRB’ disclosures, merged with the Independent Safeguarding Authority to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) providing ‘DBS certificates’. Background can be found on the ECB website.
Two important changes to note when you receive your DBS certificate:
-
Send the certificate to the ECB's administrator TMG who will return it to you.
-
NEW APPLICANTS ONLY: Register to complete future renewals online within 2 weeks of receiving your certificate from DBS.
Details on the above appear in the letter which accompanies your certificate. Please refer to our website, your Club Welfare Officer and the ECB website for further detailed guidance.
