Saeed is an off-spinner and right-handed batsman who is also a Pakistan International.
One of the most highly-rated spin-bowlers in the world, he was signed for the tail-end of the 2013 season with the intention of him playing in during August and September – a period when fellow Hampshire 2013 overseas signing George Bailey was expected to be involved in Australia’s T20 Internationals against England.
He will be a familiar face to cricket fans on these shores, who saw him take 24 wickets in just three 2011 Tests against England – at that point, the country ranked number 1 in the world!
Though an off-spinner by trade, much of Ajmal’s success has been attributed to his control over his variations, particularly in the use of his “doosra” and subtle changes in speed and flight.
He has previously played County cricket for Worcestershire during the 2011 season. There, he took 17 wickets in three First Class matches (including a six-wicket haul against Sussex), 11 wickets in four List A matches and 16 wickets in eight Twenty20 matches.
