Sep 5 2013
Hampshire Cricket’s 1973 Championship winning team all gathered at The Ageas Bowl on Wednesday to mark the 40th anniversary of their last victory together.
The full team were all presented with commemorative caps by Hampshire Chairman Rod Bransgrove and Mark Nicholas to celebrate the season which saw the team remain unbeaten to clinch the Championship title with a game to spare.
Opening batsmen Barry Richards and Gordon Greenidge were an integral part of the winning team with both notching more than 1,000 runs.
But the bowlers also played their part in the success with Bob Herman, Tom Mottram and Mike Taylor each taking more than 50 wickets.
Spinner David O'Sullivan, who made the trip from New Zealand especially for the anniversary, also contributed with over 40 wickets.
