Hampshire's New Mascot Revealed
May 4 2012
Hampshire Cricket is delighted to reveal its new mascot for its limited overs sides – Reginald Linford Royal.
Reginald – known as ‘Reggie the Royal’ for short - will make his debut for the Royals at Bank Holiday Monday’s opening Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Glamorgan’s Welsh Dragons at The Ageas Bowl.
Following the Club’s change of name from the Hampshire Hawks to the Hampshire Royals in 2010, Reggie follows on from the good work of Harry the Hawk and will be at all home CB40 and Friends Life t20 matches as well as competing in the much-loved “Mascot Race” at Friends Life t20 Finals Day.
He will also take become the Club’s Zooters junior membership ambassador.
Reggie said; “It is with great pride that I accept the role of Hampshire Royals mascot, especially as their success in the limited overs competitions in recent seasons has been beyond most people’s wildest dreams. My mane aim is to support the team as they push for success once again in 2012.
“I hope I’ll be a roaring success in the new role.”
Reggie was born in Telegraph Woods behind the site of The Ageas Bowl and counts Sean Ervine – often referred to as “The Lion” by his team-mates - as his favourite player. The Kings of Lion [sic] are his favourite band and his favourite song is “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf.
