Hampshire's 'Trees for Boundaries' Campaign Boosted for T20 Quarter-Final
Glenn Maxwell has hit 27 boundaries (14 fours and 13 sixes) so far in the tournament
Twenty trees to be planted for every boundary scored at Trent Bridge
Hampshire Cricket will be boosting its “Trees for Boundaries” campaign for the Royals’ Friends Life t20 Quarter-Final against the Nottinghamshire Outlaws next Wednesday [25 July].
The campaign is a result of the Hampshire Royals' partnership with insurance intermediary The Green Insurance Company, an eco-conscious subsidiary of parent company Ageas – partner of the club’s stadium, whose original aim was to plant ten trees for every boundary scored by The Royals during home fixtures throughout the t20 season.
Twenty trees will now be planted for every boundary the Royals score during the Quarter-Final match, doubling the number scored per four and six during the group stages.
The team made the boundary 44 times in the three innings they have batted at The Ageas Bowl so far, meaning The Green Insurance Company will plant 440 trees at Great Chalfield Manor in Wiltshire at the end of the campaign.
The aim is to capture the carbon dioxide emissions arising from putting on t20 matches at The Ageas Bowl – a figure estimated to be roughly 250 tonnes.
All-rounder, Glenn Maxwell has been leading the way in the big-hitting thus far, reaching the ropes 27 times in six innings in the tournament as a whole.
He said; “The ‘Trees for Boundaries’ campaign is a fantastic initiative and one I’m glad to be supporting. Twenty20 cricket is the form of the game that brings in the big crowds, precisely because scoring runs quickly is the aim of the game.
“So if we, as a Club, can help offset the carbon emissions created by putting on these large scale events while boosting the Royals chances of reaching a third consecutive Finals Day, everyone’s a winner, really.”
June Lynch, Managing Director of The Green Insurance Company, said: “As the t20 season approaches its final stages, we are delighted to announce we are doubling the amount of trees we originally pledged to plant for the Quarter-Final match against the Nottinghamshire Outlaws, this will no doubt add another dimension of excitement to an already fantastic campaign as we aim to hit our target of 1,000 trees planted.
"We wish the Hampshire Royals every success ahead of the match, and hope to see the players and supporters celebrating plenty of boundaries.”
