The Hampshire Academy lost by two wickets to Bournemouth off the penultimate ball of a thrilling match at The Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
They looked to have done enough when they posted an imposing total of 264-5. That was thanks to a decent start from Ollie Green (33) and Rob Gibson (45) which was followed by a fine half-century by James Halson (54). Finally, a breezy 44 not out from Ryan Scott and pinch-hit 37 off 18 balls from Lewis McManus helped the total on.
They even started the chase well, reducing their visitors to 95-5 at the half way stage in their innings, left-arm pace bowler Tom Barber (3-53) removing the Park brothers, Nick and James, in his opening over.
But the visitors fought back hard with sizable knocks from Mark House (52), Jake Hurley (64) and a 28-ball 33 from Dave Kidner. Ten runs an over were needed – but on the quick Nursery Ground outfield such a target is achievable.
And so it proved, with visiting batsmen Ciaran Quinn (33*) and skipper Scott Barlow (14*) sharing an unbroken 50-run stand to climax a breathtaking Bournemouth run-chase, which ended in triumph with one ball to spare.
