Summary: Abandoned without a ball being bowled
Final Group Table
The Hampshire Royals' final Group fixture against the Essex Eagles, in this season's Friends Life T20 competition was unceremoniously abandoned without a single ball being bowled at The Ageas Bowl to ensure Hampshire finished second in the South group on 13 points.
However, despite no play on home soil before its abandonment at around 5pm, the Royals also had a vested interest in the outcome of the North Group match between the Nottinghamshire Outlaws and the Leicestershire Foxes, where play was possible.
The South Coast side needed to better Notts’ result to give themselves a home tie in the Quarter Final of this year's competition, but were left powerless as the Outlaws recorded a 69-run win over the Foxes.
That result meant the men from Trent Bridge finished with 14 points – one more than the Royals and enough to see them claim the best runner-up slot.
Hampshire were drawn against the Outlaws at Trent Bridge in the next round – a match that will take place on either the 24th or 25th of July. The other ties include Somerset v Essex, Sussex v Gloucestershire, Yorkshire v Worcestershire.
