Music blaring out from a fun fair immediately behind the bowler’s arm, coupled with a soaking wet Havant Park surface, was all too much for the Hampshire Academy, who tumbled to 67 all out and an eight-wicket defeat.

The result lifted defending champions Havant into second place behind South Wilts in the ECB Southern Electric Premier League table and dropped the young Academy side into second from bottom position.

Hamble Community School sports master Jez Ord ripped the heart out of the Hampshire Academy batting with a 5-22 return.

Only Michael Porter (13) of the top order made double figures as Ord clean bowled four of his victims and trapped another leg before wicket.

The Academy, who had been put into bat after a delayed start, sank to 35-6 before Lewis McManus (32) effectively doubled the total.

Left-arm spinner Steven Matthews (3-10) ran through the tail as the Academy struggled to reach 67.

Left-arm fast bowler Tom Barber nailed Peter Hopson in the first over, but Ben Walker (32 not out) and Stuart Ransley (35) took Havant to the brink of an eight-wicket victory.
