SOUTHERN ELECTRIC PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 26 MAY 2012
THE SPORTS CENTRE

Hampshire Academy: 179
Lymington: 183-2
Scorecard

A positive start from the Hampshire Academy couldn’t be converted into a win as they lost to Lymington by eight wickets in this Southern Electric Premier League match at the Sports Ground.

A 58-run opening partnership between Newbury teenager Oli Green (46) and Jake George (24) got the youngsters off to a great start.

But once Green became the first of three victims for wicketkeeper Ed Ellis – two of which were slick stumpings – the Academy lost their way.

A promising 72-1 soon became 105-5, with Christian Pain (2-23) and the impressive Glyn Treagus (3-23) carving through the top order.

The Young Royals did enjoy one brief moment of respite when a double over-throw credited James Halson (24) with seven runs off one ball.

Sixth-wicket pair Ryan Scott (22) and Lewis McManus (20) added a useful 48, but the introduction of Zimbabwean Craig Ervine (3-18) – brother of First XI player, Sean - effectively finished the innings off; Hampshire all out for 179.

It was then left to a fantastic performance from Lymington opener Darren Cowley to strike a six and 14 fours in a knock of 92 to take the game away from the visitors.

Cowley was remorseless, cracking shots all around the ground and soon guaranteeing Lymington a winning position.

Treagus (24) supported him in a 105-run start, but it was Cowley who led the way with a series of powerful shots.

When Treagus was run out, Ervine underlined his class with a fluent 46 not out.

Cowley’s departure – leg before to leg spinner Rob Gibson after a run-a-ball innings – at least garnered the Academy a fourth bonus point.

But the hosts chased down their opponent’s score to win with almost 20 overs to spare.
