An unbeaten second innings knock of 91 from Middlesex batsman Tom Scollay guided his side to a seven wicket victory in this Second XI Championship match at Merchant Taylors’ School, Moor Park.
Having seen his side set 205 for victory, Scollay’s second wicket partnership of 138 effectively took the game away from Hampshire in a match which held few positives for the visitors.
They had, thanks to a stubborn innings of 77 (127 balls, four fours) from wicketkeeper Adam Rouse, recorded a reasonable first innings score of 250 but probably relied, with just two wickets down, on an attacking declaration from their hosts - nearly 100 runs behind - to claim a first innings lead.
A Bilal Shafayat knock of 51 (87 balls, five fours and two sixes) once again gave the South Coast side something to work with, but with few of his colleagues able to stick with him, a second innings total of 115-9 was always going to be more competitive than James Tomlinson’s side would have liked.
And so it was as Scollay, with support from four team-mates knocked off the runs in 49 overs.
