Development Deals for Hampshire Trio

Former Player and Coach's Son Offered Contract

Hampshire Cricket is delighted to announce that three promising young players have signed development contracts with the Club for the 2012 season.

Batsman, Sean Terry, who’s also the son of former Hampshire player and coach, Paul Terry, is one of three youngsters to be offered the deal, which has been a stepping stone to helping current players such as Michael Bates, Danny Briggs, James Vince and Chris Wood graduate into the first team in recent years. The other two are Adam Rouse and Tim Ravenscroft – both of whom were on the same contract last summer.

Sean Terry impressed Club management while playing three Second XI Championship (SEC) and two Second XI Trophy (SET) matches for Hampshire last year, scoring three 50's and a 100 in the process. He also represented the MCC Young Cricketers – even scoring 91 against Hampshire in a Twenty20 game and 70 in a SET game on the Isle of Wight.

Raised in Perth, Australia, he also plays for Melville CC, where fellow Hampshire players Dimitri Mascarenhas, Liam Dawson, James Vince, Hamza Riazuddin and David Balcombe have all plied their trade. He has represented Western Australia at junior levels as well as Hampshire age group sides in previous years.

Upon signing the deal, Terry said; "I am excited to be given this opportunity by Hampshire. It has always been a dream of mine to play for the club and, even though I grew up in Australia, it was always my goal.

“Hampshire has been a big part of my life, particularly because my Dad had such a long career here, and to be given the chance to start my professional career at Hampshire means a lot. I can’t wait to get started next season and be part of a young squad pushing to be back in the first division".

Ravenscroft-Colours-Bat-Scotland-RoseBowl-Marshall-1-410Tim Ravenscroft (left) is also a batsman and occasional right-arm spin-bowler. He made his List A debut against Scotland at The Rose Bowl in 2011 and, although that was one of only two senior-team matches during the season (the other being the MCCU match against Leeds / Bradford University where he took a second innings 4-66 with the ball), he impressed enough in the Second XI to be called up to the squad as back up for an injured James Vince in the return fixture at Aberdeen.

He scored over 500 runs in the Hampshire Second XI across all competitions at a Championship average of just under 30. His highest score was 73 – one of four scores over 50 in the season.

Adam Rouse (below right) is a wicketkeeper-batsman who played mostly Second XI cricket for Hampshire in 2011. However, he did play in the MCCU match against Leeds / Bradford University, impressing with his batting, making 67 including a partnership of 103 with Kabir Ali for the 10th wicket.

25He scored 489 runs in the Hampshire Second XI across all competitions, with a Championship average of 35. His highest score was 102 not out against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham. He also took 28 catches and made four stumpings in both competitions.

Probably the highlight of Rouse's season, however, came during The Rose Bowl's inaugral Test match featuring England and Sri Lanka as he (aged 19) became the youngest substitute fielder to take a catch in an England match in England. On as a replacement for the injured Stuart Broad, Rouse saw off Sri Lankan centurion and captain Kumar Sangakkara as a looped shot off a delivery from Jimmy Anderson fell to him at point.
