Bowler suffers long-term injury on pre-season tour
Hampshire bowler Kabir Ali has confirmed he will miss the start of this summer’s campaign after picking up an ankle injury.
The set-back came in an unfortunate accident while on the club’s pre season tour to Barbados.
And Kabir expressed his disappointment at the timing of it: “I did all the hard work this winter and then, unfortunately and through no fault of mine or anyone’s, I just sprained my ankle a bit and it’s a little bit worse than we thought it was.
“I’m very frustrated at the moment because I’ve done all the hard work and the last couple of years haven’t been the best.
“The injury I had a couple years ago - the knee - that wasn’t my fault as well. It was a little freaky incident - an accident that took place - and this one is exactly the same again.”
Fortunately, the good news is that this is not a re-occurrence of that knee injury that has affected his Hampshire career so far:
“This is definitely an ankle injury. I rolled it. Basically I landed on top of the ball and I just sprained it. Well, we thought we had sprained it but, I think, speaking to Craig [de Weymarn, Hampshire Physio] it’s a little more than just a sprain.
“I’m going to be out for another little bit - a couple of weeks more than what we thought it would be.”
Despite the frustration, Kabir conceded that this is just part and parcel of the sport.
“I tried doing the right things but unfortunately these injuries are part of the game.”
“I know it’s very frustrating for myself and the club because we were looking forward to actually playing the first game but we are going to have to wait a bit longer now.
