Tomlinson Joins Squad to Face Leicestershire

Full squad and preview for Hampshire's LV= County Championship match against Leicestershire at The Ageas Bowl, starting on Thursday.

Hampshire v Leicestershire
LV= County Championship
Thursday 26 – Sunday 29 April (11am start)
The Ageas Bowl

Hampshire have received some good news ahead of their LV= County Championship match against Leicestershire which starts on Thursday as James Tomlinson returns from injury for the match at The Ageas Bowl.

Tomlinson injured his foot while on the team’s pre-season tour of Barbados and has missed opening matches against Gloucestershire and Glamorgan so far.

He is the only addition to the squad - which now numbers thirteen – that secured a dramatic penultimate-ball victory in Cardiff last week.

Michael Carberry is also named in the thirteen. His fitness, having suffered a groin strain in that match at the SWALEC Stadium, is being monitored ahead of Thursday.

The visitors will be without their captain and talisman Matthew Hoggard, who will miss a considerable amount of the early season due to an operation on his hand.

It was exactly the sort of loss the Midlands side could have done without having also lost promising young batsman James Taylor and bowler Harry Gurney both to Nottinghamshire over the winter.

Nevertheless, last season’s Friends Life t20 champions will come to the South Coast with their tails up, having gained a victory in their first match and a decent return of nine points from a heavily rain-affected draw with Derbyshire.

Both youngster Josh Cobb and overseas Ramnaresh Sarwan scored centuries in that match while Wayne White claimed the Club’s third five-wicket haul of the season so far (the other two going to new signing Robbie Joseph in the opening match against Glamorgan.)

With Leicestershire just one place - and two points - above Hampshire in the table, a win for either team could springboard them towards the top of Division Two.

A preview interview with Hampshire manager, Giles White is included below. (Click here to hear interviews with other Hampshire Cricketers).
