Hants Move Up the Table Despite Washed-Out Day Four

Report from day four of Hampshire's LV= County Championship match against Yorkshire at The Ageas Bowl

A draw and six points from this match against Yorkshire at The Ageas Bowl moved Hampshire up one place to fourth in LV= County Championship Division Two, but it will be scant consolation after another rain-ruined game.

No play was possible on day four leaving home batsmen Jimmy Adams (20*) and Neil McKenzie (14*) stranded at the crease, unable to build on the 39-0 they had reached in reply to their visitors' first innings 350-9d on day three.

In fact, having seen just 106 overs played across all four days, the match was remarkable for just two reasons, neither particularly great for Hampshire - Joe Root's 222* and for the fact that it is the shortest match to have ever been played at the ground (beating 2001's match against Warwickshire, which had 119.1 overs).

Afterwards, Hants captain Adams said, "It is slowly wearing us down a little bit. It'd be nice to turn up tomorrow [for the CB40 match against Durham] with the sun out and next week too [Notts CB40 and Essex LV=CC fixtures].

"We just want the chance to play a four day game where you can show your skills over four days and hopefully come out on top of a hard game, like the Glamorgan game here, really.

"But it's not just us - it's nearly every team in the country. I don't think there's been much play in the whole of England today. So we're happy with the small batch of points we got today and it just shifts us a little bit further up the ladder."
