A James Vince (102*) unbeaten century wasn’t enough to prevent the Royals slipping to a six-wicket Clydesdale Bank 40 defeat at the hands of the Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Trent Bridge.
In truth, a more consistent batting performance from the hosts saw them chase down Hampshire’s total of 230-7 with relative ease, reaching their target in 37.1 overs.
As at The Ageas Bowl earlier in the season it was James Taylor (74) - supported by Alex Hales (70) - who led the way for the Outlaws, with only Danny Briggs (2-27) putting in a best bowling performance of the match proving some cheer in the chase for Hants.
The result sees Notts close the gap between themselves and the top-of-the-table Royals to just three points, with two games in hand over the South Coast side. Jimmy Adams’ side now travel to Chelmsford to play Essex in the LV= County Championship before returning to Trent Bridge next week for the Friends Life t20 Quarter Final.
They’re next in action in the CB40 away to Glamorgan on Friday 10 August.
