Ringwood Brewery
Ringwood Brewery was founded by Peter Austin in 1978, a man who is revered as ‘The Father of British Micro-brewing’. Ringwood Brewery’s first brewhouse was in a former bakery in the old station yard, brewing Best Bitter followed shortly by Fortyniner. 1979 saw the production of Old Thumper, which has since become the flagship brew. Old Thumper was voted Champion Beer of Britain by CAMRA in 1988.
In 1986, having outgrown the old station yard premises, the brewery moved to its present site, ironically the location of the old Tunks’ Brewery which ceased trading in 1821.
Today, the brewery is able to produce around 40,000 barrels of its renowned and distinctive beers including the most recent brew, the blonde Boondoggle.
Ringwood Brewery boats its own Brewery Store which is full to the brim with a tasty selection of cask and bottled beers from the Marston’s range as well as bottled cider, wine and fruit wine. The brewery also offers a two hour tour experience giving visitors a chance to taste the malted barley, sniff the hops and see the beer fermenting in the Tun Room. The tour is finished with a tutored tasting session and complimentary drink.
