Katich and Briggs in Gloucestershire Squad

Match preview and full squad for Hampshire's LV= County Championship match against Gloucestershire at The Ageas Bowl, starting on Thursday.

Having watched the first round of matches from the side-lines, Hampshire kick-start their LV= County Championship campaign against Gloucestershire at The Ageas Bowl on Thursday (11am start - gates open at 10am).

Manager Giles White names a 12-man squad which includes overseas signing Simon Katich for the first time since announcing his return to the Club he represented between 2003 and 2005.

Spinner Danny Briggs, who made his England One Day International debut over the winter, also comes back into the squad having missed the team’s pre-season tour of Barbados and warm-up matches against Sussex and Loughborough University.

They will be without seamers James Tomlinson (foot) and Kabir Ali (ankle) through injury (Visit From the Physio's Table for more) as well as Dimi Mascarenhas, who is at the Indian Premier League. Neil McKenzie doesn’t arrive until June.

They take on a Gloucestershire side who will be looking for a reaction having suffered a heavy defeat (by an innings and 38 runs) to Essex in their opening match last week.

New signing, Dan Housego, in particular, will be looking to impress, having made a hundred against Hampshire at the same venue in last-season’s warm-up match playing for Middlesex.

Club captain Jimmy Adams said; “In terms of being ready to play, the boys are pretty good to go now. If there was another week of waiting I think there would be some itchy feet, though!

“We’re pretty happy with the preparation we’ve had, now it’s just a case of going out there and delivering the goods.

“Gloucester have had a tough start. Weather that makes a difference to how they play against us, I don’t know, but it’s really a case of us executing our skills and we have the ability in the XI to get the right result.”
