Persistent rain meant there was no play on day one of Hampshire's LV= County Championship match against Derbyshire at The Ageas Bowl.
Players took an early lunch at 12:30 but, with no sign of a let-up in the weather, the umpires made an early decision just after 1 o clock.
It means the teams will have a maximum of just three days to try to get a result from the match - not an altogether impossible task given the nature of results so far this season and very seam-friendly conditions.
When play does get under way, Hampshire left-arm quick, James Tomlinson looks set to play his first Championship game of the season, having missed the opening few games with a foot injury sustained in pre-season. He said; "It's been an unbelievable start to the season with all the bad weather but there's nothing we can do. It looks like the weather's going to clear up for tomorrow, though, so it looks like it's going to be a three-day game now. There's lots to play for.
"I think there's every chance of a result in this game, even if it 'naturally' occurs. So we'll just get on with it tomorrow because you never know what will happen.
Tomlinson adds that the weather has played an important factor in delaying his return to first team action; "It's been a frustrating few weeks for me because I've wanted to be available for the last two weeks but I haven't been able to get the overs in to warrant that selection. So I'm over the moon to be playing in this game.
"For me, personally, it's the start of my season and, as a club, we've got four very important [Championship] games coming up, (leading into the Twenty20s) against some good teams so I'm just looking forward to getting stuck in."
