England v New Zealand ODI
New Zealand’s ODI against England on Sunday 2 June represents a first opportunity for the tourists to play at The Ageas Bowl having seen their 2004 National Westminster Bank Series match against the West Indies at the ground abandoned.
However, England have plenty of experience on the South Coast having won six out of nine matches at the current home of Hampshire Cricket and winning four out of five matches played at the ground since 2009.
Both have plenty of 50-over pedigree with England having been World Cup runners up on three occasions and reaching the Semi-Finals twice. They’ve also been Runners-Up in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2004 and made the Semi-Finals in 2009.
The “Black Caps”, meanwhile have made the Semi-Finals of the World Cup in this format six times, including in the last World Cup held in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in 2011. They also won the 2000 ICC Knock-Out Trophy in Kenya beating current World 50-over Champions India in the Final.
In 70 One Day Internationals between the two sides before 2013, the Kiwis have the slight edge having won on 35 occasions to England’s 29. There have also been two ties and four “no results”.
Amongst the players expected to turn out for them at The Ageas Bowl are big-hitting opener Brendon McCullum, who holds the record for the fastest World Cup 50 (off 20 balls).
